A Day at the Deer Farm

This past week my mom came for a quick visit… Unfortunately she is only able to make it about once a year (which we hope to change in the near future!!) So I asked the kiddos what would be a special outing to do with Nana??!

We have been trying to make it up to the Deer Farm in Joy, FL for a while now… I had discovered this little country gem last Autumn while visiting the Pumpkin Patch with my daughter, so was very excited to have amazing weather on Saturday for not only a great short trip, but nice drive as well…

The Sanctuary is home to about 1500 deer spaced out across a nice piece of land… The animals are free to roam as they please, and although we didnt get them to eat out of the palm of our hands, they sure did get close… This was an incredible experience for all of us… The Fallows were so beautiful, so gentle. A tractor pulled hay bail ride took us around a piece of the property, and the staff honestly couldnt have been nicer! They had a playground with apple canon, a petting area with donkeys and goats, and a HUGE pig roaming around eating corn… The horse my Madi fell in love with was named Nona and she was just the sweetest…

The Park is called Santa Rosa Ranch… If your looking for a bit of country here in the Panhandle, I recommend it! Military, they offer a discount… Bring a picnic, or some dogs and marsh mellows to roast over the fire pits, and stop by Akers Farm for some Strawberry picking on the way home! The kids will have a blast and see some wildlife up close!

As a family we are trying to move towards sanctuaries and farms over zoos… Lets explore and observe animals the way they nature intended!
